Operation Comfort Warriors (OCW) is an officially recognized program of The American Legion Charities, Inc., its purpose is to assist wounded, injured or ill active-duty military personnel and veterans by providing morale-enhancing gifts to warrior transition units, VA and DoD medical care facilities, military installations, and 501(c)(3) and (c)(19) organizations which are part of The American Legion Family or such nonprofit entities sponsored by an American Legion legal entity. The objective is to support entities and programs that provide aid and comfort services to recipients and their families. OCW assists disabled, wounded, or injured active-duty military personnel and veterans in military medical facilities, wounded warrior battalions, and warrior transition units, as well as those facilities that support veterans after they are discharged from the military. OCW can also provide grants to military installations that can improve the morale, mental health, and well-being of those servicemembers stationed there even though the facility is not considered to be a medical facility or a transition unit or the servicemembers may be in good health.
